Three patterns

  1. Deal credits carried the week.

Eight of the 19 published items were deal credits. In Canada, Stikeman Elliott advised Logan Energy on its sale to Ovintiv, which values Logan at about C$1.26 billion. In the US, Sidley advised the Silgan–AIP partnership on the acquisition of Trivium, which creates a US$7.3 billion metal packaging business. In Europe it was four of seven items: Freshfields for the underwriters on Anthropic's planned IPO, Linklaters for Qiagen on its €10.8bn take-private by EQT, Clifford Chance for CICC on its three-way merger with Dongxing Securities and Cinda Securities, and Slaughter and May for PTTEP on its Ghasha joint venture with Eni. In APAC, HSF Kramer advised FleetPartners on its A$1.131 billion sale to SG Fleet, and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas took credits on the InsuranceDekho–RenewBuy merger and Triveni Power Transmission's listing.

  2. The US partner is the prize.

Two firms covered in the Europe issue hired in the US: Clifford Chance added project finance partner Jean Lee, which it says brings its US partner hires this year to 12, and Hogan Lovells Cadwalader hired former US ambassador Julissa Reynoso in New York. US firms used laterals to build in specific regions: Kirkland says Alex Kaplan strengthens its Texas litigation bench, and Sidley brought CLO partner Glenn Kunkes and three associates into Charlotte.

  3. Advice, packaged as a product.

Goodwin turned AI governance into a three-part program: a free health check, then readiness documents, then an annual subscription. Kim & Chang signed an MOU with Palo Alto Networks to respond jointly to cyber breaches. Each turns a practice into something a client can buy, with either a recurring fee or a named technical partner attached.

The BD read.

  1. Count your hires out loud. Clifford Chance says Jean Lee brings its US partner hires this year to 12. That turns one announcement into a running scoreboard, and a counter makes each new hire read as momentum.

  2. Package one practice as a product, with tiers, a subscription or a named technical partner. Buyers compare menus faster than partner bios.

  3. Deal credits are still the biggest single category of what firms publish. Make yours carry the team and the client story, not only the price.
